OLDER INFANTS

SUMMARY

We recognize that the growth of a child is a gradual developmental process unique to each child. Our programs are designed to support each child’s natural curiosity for learning. Young children learn by doing and are motivated by their own desire to make sense of their world.

At SFLC we believe relationships are the critical foundation of quality child-care. Our older infant staff work to foster a loving, kind, and warm relationship with your child to ensure that they feel safe, comfortable, and happy while in our care. Through this relationship with the child and through establishing a trusting and strong relationship with the parents, our teachers can know each child’s individual needs for growth and development.

In our older infant classroom, we also begin to help our students adjust to a more structured day and begin to establish daily classroom routines.

Pro Care App

Daily communication with our parents is important to us and a key part of having positive parent-teacher relationships. We utilize the Pro-Care App to keep our parents updated on their child’s daily activities, mealtimes, nap times etc

WHAT TO EXPECT

Drop Off

During drop off time the teacher and the parent will spend time exchanging any important information the teacher needs to know for the day.

Pick Up

During pick up time the teacher will share with the parent how the child’s day went, answer any questions, and ensure the parent has all the child’s belongings to take home for the day.

DAY IN THE LIFE

Daily Activities

• Our older infants will have a more structured schedule throughout the day. They will begin learning how to participate in daily activities such as circle time, weekly art, science, sensory activities, outside play time, regular mealtimes, and regular nap time. Early language and literacy skills, early number/math skills, sign language, Spanish words, and small and gross motor skills are taught by our staff on a consistent basis through play and various activities. At this age our older infants grow and learn and develop through play as our teachers use the student's everyday environment and interactions to facilitate their learning.

Meals

• Our older infants participate in our scheduled mealtimes for the center and are served a Morning Snack, Lunch, and Afternoon Snack. Students in these classrooms are provided with additional bottles, snacks, and meals as needed throughout the day. Parents can choose to provide a lunch or snack for their child as long as it does not need to be heated and does not contain nuts.

Nap Time

• Our older infants participate in a scheduled nap time each afternoon. If additional nap time or rest time is needed for a child during the day, it will be provided.
