4-5 YEAR OLDS
We recognize that the growth of a child is a gradual developmental process unique to each child. Our programs are designed to support each child’s natural curiosity for learning. Young children learn by doing and are motivated by their own desire to make sense of their world.
At Salem Fields Learning Center, we understand the importance of Preschool and go the extra mile to ensure your child’s success. We design our preschool program to help prepare each child so that they are kindergarten-ready. Not only do we focus on important academic milestones, but we also focus on the social, emotional, and behavioral milestones a child needs to master before starting school.
While in our Preschool Program, our students will learn through a multitude of activities designed to reach all children. For our instructional curriculum we try our best to follow the Virginia’s Foundational Blocks for Early Learning: Comprehensive Standards for Four-Year Olds approved by the Virginia Board of Education.
We also utilize a character-building curriculum to help students grow and enhance their social and emotional skills. Our goal in teaching theses skills is that our students learn how to appropriately process and respond to their emotions, maintain healthy relationships with their peers and others, and be a positive influence to those around them.
Students will also participate in several field trips throughout the year to places such as Pumpkin Patch, Chuck E Cheese, Gingerbread House Exhibit, Park, and Strawberry Picking.
At SFLC we value parental involvement as it is important to a child’s success. Therefore, we encourage parents to be involved in their child’s preschool experience. Our teachers will individually assess the students four times a year and hold at least two parent teacher conferences throughout the year to help keep parents informed on their child’s growth and needs. There are also assignments and activities sent that will be home weekly and monthly Family Projects for the parents and their child to work on together.
DAY IN THE LIFE
Daily Activities
Our students participate in several daily activities in order to facilitate their learning and development.
Meals
Students participate in our scheduled mealtimes and are served a Morning Snack, Lunch, and Afternoon Snack.
Nap Time
Students participate in a scheduled nap time daily.
Outdoor Time
Students go outside for at least one hour every day. They can enjoy playing on our playground, taking a nature walk around the building and grounds, or playing on our deck area by our pond. In the event the weather does not allow for safe outdoor play our students will spend time in our Large Group room doing large motor skill and group activities. Group play promotes social skills amongst the young children and is critical to child development.
ALL ABOUT
During drop-off time, the teacher and the parent will spend time exchanging any important information the teacher needs to know for the day.
During pick-up time, the teacher will share with the parent how the child’s day went, answer any questions, and ensure the parent has all the child’s belongings to take home for the day.
Daily communication with our parents is important to us and a key part of having positive parent-teacher relationships. We utilize the Pro-Care App to keep our parents updated on their child’s daily activities, mealtimes, nap times etc.
